![]() Why does it not scan my complete C:, D:
and E:
drives?
99% of
all product license keys are located in the Windows Registry.
Only some programs does store their products keys
somewhere on the hard-drive in files and Product Key Finder does
include a scan of these files also. Can I recover my serial from the Windows CD?
No, there are no serials there. When you enter your key
with the installation of Window, it is checked against an algorithm to verify the
key.It shows me a BBBBB-BBBBB-BBBBB-BBBBB key
for my Windows instead of real product key.
For
Windows 8, Windows 7, Vista, Windows Server 2008 operating systems this
key may be shown instead of real key, if it is a MAK (Multiple
Activation Keys) or a VLK (Volume License Keys). These license keys cannot
be recovered since they are not stored in the system at all.Why does the Windows product key
differ from the one on my computer's sticker?
If you purchased your
computer with a pre-installed Windows system from a
manufacturer such as Dell, HP or Toshiba, it is likely that
Windows was installed using an OEM key instead of the actual key
for your computer. Can I change my product keys with
Product Key Finder?
Yes, with the exception of Microsoft and Adobe products,
because these keys can only be recovered. You can change the Windows product
key, but only locally and on Windows 8, Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7,
Server 2003 and Server 2008.Questions regarding network
computer scans Which setting need to be set on a remote
computer to scan it? If you
want to scan one or more network computers you will need to make sure
that following settings are set on the remote computer. Depending on
the operating system of the remote computer, please check the following:For Windows XP, Windows 2000, and Windows 2003 Server: Firewall File and printer sharing should be ON Remote registry service should be started. NOTE: No longer required since Product Key Finder version 6.0 Sharing and security model for local accounts is set to Classic For Windows Vista, 7, 8, 10 and Windows Server 2008: Network discovery and File and printer sharing should be turned ON Firewall File and printer sharing should be ON Remote registry service should be started. NOTE: No longer required since Product Key Finder version 6.0 Disable UAC remote restrictions Sharing and security model for local accounts is set to Classic
When I try to scan
a remote network computer I receive an error
message "The network path was not found". There
are several possible reasons, but most common is the Windows Firewall (or any other
firewall) blocking Product Key Finder from accessing \\remotecomputer\c$
share in order to login remote. To fix it you may disable
firewall or configure it properly. With the Windows Firewall this can
be done easily. Enable 'File and Printer
sharing'. Here are more detailed steps:Go to 'Control panel' Click on 'Windows Firewall' If its state is "On", navigate to 'Exceptions' tab Enable 'File and Printer sharing' When I try to scan a remote network
computer I receive the error message "The interface is unknown".
This means that the 'Remote Registry' service is not
started on the remote machine. This service is not starting by
default in Windows Vista and Windows 7. To start it please
complete the following steps:Open 'Control panel' Select 'Administrative tools' Open 'Services' Find 'Remote registry' service, like on this picture: Services Double-click on 'Remote registry' Change 'startup type' to 'Automatic' Remote registry service Click on 'Start' to start service. Click OK. When I try to scan a remote network
computer I receive the error message "Logon failure: unknown user name
or bad password". There can be 3 possible
causes:You have entered username or password incorrect. Please make sure you had entered it correctly. If your network is in domain, use 'DOMAIN\Username' instead or just 'Username', since remote computer may treat Username as local user. Sharing and security model for local accounts is set to 'Guest only' on remote computer. This is most common issue, since it is set like that by default in Windows XP. To change it please do following steps: Open 'Control panel' Select 'Administrative Tools' Open 'Local security policy' On the left pane navigate to 'Security Settings' => 'Local policies' => 'Security Options' On the right pane find 'Network access: Sharing and security model for local accounts' Double-click on it in order to change Set it to 'Classic - Local users authenticate as themselves' You can also do that in registry: Press on windows 'Start' button Click on 'Run...' Type 'regedit' and press Enter On the left pane navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa On the right pane you will find value 'forceguest', if it is not there you need to create it, by clicking menu 'Edit' => 'New' => 'DWORD value' Double click on 'forceguest' in order to change it Set it to '0' Reboot your remote computer and try to connect to it with Product Key Finder again. When I try to scan a remote network
computer I receive the error message "Access Denied". Applies toWindows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2 Resolution If you received "Access Denied" error while trying to scan remote computer (which is Windows 7 or Windows Vista) with Product Key Finder, this means the UAC remote restriction is blocking it. Please complete following steps on remote Windows 7/Vista in order to fix it: Click 'Start', click 'Run', type 'regedit', and then press Enter. Locate and then click the following registry subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System If the 'LocalAccountTokenFilterPolicy' registry entry does not exist, follow these steps: On the 'Edit' menu, point to 'New', and then click 'DWORD' Value. Type 'LocalAccountTokenFilterPolicy', and then press Enter. Right-click 'LocalAccountTokenFilterPolicy', and then click Modify. In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK. Exit Registry Editor. IMPORTANT Reboot is needed in order for changes to take effect. For more information http://support.microsoft.com/kb/951016 When I try to scan a remote network
computer I receive the error message "Multiple connections to a
server...". If you receive a "Multiple connections to a
server or shared resource by the same user, using more than one
user name, are not allowed..." error message while trying to scan
a remote computer this means that you are already connected to
the remote computer and
Product Key Finder is trying to connect again, and Windows does not
allow multiple connection from the same user.To fix this, disconnect all previous connections to the remote computer and try again. If it does not help, please reboot the remote computer and try again. For more information please refer to this link: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/938120
